WHAT IS STATE LEGISLATION?


Historically, abortion restrictions have existed in the form of state, not federal, laws. The 1973 Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade struck down complete state bans on abortion. Anti-choice advocates reacted to the decision by passing hundreds of state laws restricting reproductive rights and abortion access.
