Washington, DC-The Coalition for a Fair and Independent Judiciary today launched a television advertising campaign regarding the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit.
The 30-second television spot, initially running in the DC media market, focuses on the role of the United States Senate in ensuring fair and balanced courts and urges senators not to allow a vote on the Estrada nomination without having all the facts. The Coalition for a Fair and Independent Judiciary is a coalition supported by over 30 national and local civil rights, environmental, religious, community development, labor, women's rights, reproductive rights, disability rights and human rights organizations representing millions of Americans nationwide.
Mr. Estrada has failed to meet the burden of demonstrating his qualification and suitability for this prestigious position. The debate over judicial nominees should focus on the nominee's record, legal experience, judicial temperament, and judicial philosophy. Miguel Estrada has failed to answer substantive questions about his views on fundamental legal matters.
The Senate resumes debate on the Estrada nomination today. The Coalition for a Fair and Independent Judiciary strongly believes this nomination should not be allowed to move forward until Mr. Estrada answers these important questions.
Attached is a list of organizations supporting the work of the Coalition for a Fair and Independent Judiciary as well as the script of the ad. To view the ad, please go to www.allianceforjustice.org.
