A 19-year-old woman received mifepristone at 43 days' gestation. Two days later, she inserted misoprostol 800 µg intravaginally. Four hours after taking misoprostol, she called her physician to report hot flushes and chills. Her oral temperature at the time was 100.2 degrees Fahrenheit. She also reported mild pelvic cramping and vaginal bleeding.
Resolution of Case 4
The clinician instructed the patient to take a dose of the NSAID that she had prescribed for pain relief. The clinician opted to call the patient back in 1 hour, at which time the patient reported that she had passed some blood clots and what she thought was the gestational sac shortly after her initial call reporting hot flushes, chills, and fever. These symptoms resolved shortly after the heavy bleeding, and her repeat oral temperature was 99 degrees Fahrenheit.
