Colorado
Submitted by CFC state contact, Stephanie Beltz
The anti-choice movement has worked in several states to propose ballot initiatives that would hinder access to essential reproductive health care. In good news the anti-choice movement failed to get enough signatures to add any anti-choice legislation to the CO ballot.

In Congress...
Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act
NAF supports embryonic stem cell research, which has the potential to help find new treatments, or even cures, for those individuals suffering from degenerative diseases. On July 19, 2006, President Bush rejected the views of a majority of Americans when he vetoed the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (H.R. 810). This important legislation, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate with strong bipartisan support, would have expanded federal funding for this promising medical research.
Teen Endangerment Act
The Child Custody Protection Act (CCPA), more aptly called the Teen Endangerment Act, has been introduced every year for the past several years by anti-choice members of Congress. On September 26, 2006, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a measure that combines the Child Custody Protection Act, which was passed by the U.S. Senate this past summer, with provisions substantially similar to the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, which was passed by the House of Representatives last year. The House and Senate versions of this legislation must be reconciled before it can be presented to the President and signed into law. Republican Leadership in the Senate has announced plans to bring the House-passed version of the legislation to the Floor for a vote before it adjourns this week; however, NAF is working with coalition partners to try and defeat this measure.
For the most up-to-date information about CCPA visit the Public Policy section on the NAF website and please subscribe to NAF's Act for Choice to receive updates about this dangerous legislation.

Help Curb Deceptive Advertising by Crisis Pregnancy Centers!
Support the "Stop Deceptive Advertising in Women's Services" Act
Representative Maloney (D-NY) has introduced a bill, the "Stop Deceptive Advertising in Women's Services" Act, H.R. 5052, to help protect women from the deceptive advertising practices of Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs). The bill authorizes the Federal Trade Commission to regulate the advertising practices of CPCs so they would not be confused with legitimate abortion providers or providers of abortion referrals.
California Governor Signs Bills Protecting Health Care Providers!
On Tuesday, California Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law two important bills designed to protect reproductive health care providers and their patients from violence and harassment. Senate Bill 603 will extend the Reproductive Rights Law Enforcement Act for another two years. Assembly Bill 2251 will prohibit, under specific circumstances, the online posting, sale, trade or solicitation of home addresses, phone numbers, and pictures of reproductive health care providers and their patients. S.B. 603 and A.B. 2251 will help give California women and health care providers the protection they need and deserve from anti-choice violence and harassment.

On May 11, 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) held a public workshop on emerging clostridial disease. This public workshop developed a draft research agenda to better understand the virulence, pathogenesis, host factors, and non-antimicrobial risk factors contributing to reports of morbidity and mortality associated with Clostridium sordellii and Clostridium difficile.
