Seventeen-year-old Laura called the National Abortion Federation Hotline (1-800-772-9100) from Texas, which requires women under the age of 18 to notify at least one parent of their decision to terminate a pregnancy. Fearing that her parents' abusive treatment would magnify if she told them of her pregnancy, Laura contacted the Hotline seeking information on obtaining a judicial bypass. The NAF Hotline was able to give Laura the information she needed and referred her to a member clinic in Texas that was able to help her through the bypass process. A few days later Laura called to let the Hotline staff know that she had successfully obtained the judicial bypass and that she greatly appreciated all the support she had received.
